 "My favorite computer" 2010-04-16
By Lisa D. Scarborough
There are a lot of reviews with the technical information that describes this computer. Since, I am not so good with the technical aspect, I will just tell you that I am fairly computer illiterate, but was able to set this one up,connect it to the router and have it running in 15 minutes. It is the easiest thing to use and I'm pleased with the functions that it performs. I'm still learning something new everyday that amazes me, so yes, I would buy it again. The only thing I don't like is that HP offers free games and you get used to doing one and all of a sudden, they want you to buy "Wild Coins" to continue playing. They can forget that, I'll buy the game I really like before I do that and I can find free ones at other places.

"It is a good computer" 2010-04-11
By G. Munoz (California)
For me, it takes a while to get used to. It is a little different from my desktop at home, though the desktop at home is about 4 years old. The battery life seems to last about 2 hours of active use and 2 hours of hibernation/sleep mode. I took it on me on a 5 1/2 car ride. Over all, it has great performance. I loaded 20 shows of Yo Gabba Gabba and 5 shows of the Fresh Beat Band. So, it has lots of great memory. I guess my concern is the battery life. I like the computer and still am learning about it. Any suggestions would be great.

 "Student/Work computer" 2010-03-26
By Jake (Utah)
I will start of by saying I looked at alot of computers before buying this one. I like this computer like the reviews say it is fast has alot of little extras like hdmi port, remote, touch volume at the top, blue tooth, good sound for a laptop, looks real nice, webcam, and windows 7. Windows 7 does rock from sleep to awake this laptop takes less than one second and all I do is sleep the laptop so it is allways instently ready.

I like everything but the screen you cant tell looking at the screen alone but but hook it up to your LCD flat screen and you will see how much better a screen could look. You might say it is not fair to compare it to a tv so I also compaired the screen to a mac laptop screen mac's have way more vivid and deeper colors and I put it next to a MSI screen I insently saw a big differance in compairing screens. Dont believe me try it put it next to a MSI or mac look at the same picture on both screens you will see HP could use some more vived deeper colors. My other complant is there is allways a fan running you wont here it at the stores it is to loud in store to hear a little fan but take it home you will hear it, it is not loud but I would just prefer fans to run only when the computer is working hard.

Hope this review is helpfull if it is please recomend it.HP Pavilion DV6-2150US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

 "Great laptop with FEATURES!!!" 2010-03-26
By ESE (United States)
I've had this HP notebook for about 2.5 weeks now. I bought it to transfer my home videos from vhs and DV tapes to avi files and dvds. So far I have been very impressed. The i3, although at the low end of the intel "i" processors, for my purposes is FAST! I downloaded a trial version of Corel's Videostudio pro x3 (subsequently bought the full version), which I also recommend for the video enthusiasts out there. The hardware and the software complement each other as evidenced in the processing times in the capture, edit and burning stages. One great feature of this HP monster is the Lightscribe-enabled DVD/CD drive. [...] have system and application freewares you can download from their site. There are maybe a couple of hundred templates which you can insert your own images with and burn them directly on the media. NO MORE PAPER LABELS! You will need Lightscribe DVDs/CDs, the reqular ones will not work. I deleted some bloatwares (HP games, etc.) If you are doing videos, I suggest getting an external hard drive (1 to 1.5 TB preferrably) as the files take quite a bit of storage space, avi files in particular. The WIFI feature is awesome... I surf the web regularly piggy-backing on other networks around my area, even skype-video call my daughter. It is bluetooth-enabled as well, but I have not tried that feature. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase... I will try to update this review later, maybe after 6 months of ownership.

 "Good notebook" 2010-04-01
By G. K. Gibson (Apex, NC)
I'm quite pleased with this notebook. It is thin and light. The performance is great. I had trouble with the touch pad and the video. HP Support initially gave me bad information about the fixes for both problems, but the touch pad problem was eventually fixed by getting a BIOS update and the video problem was fixed by a video driver update.

 "Looks cool, otherwise useless" 2010-03-19
By buy less, live more
looks cool, that's about it. get's hot, uncomfortably warm on the wrist rests. and it's slow. and the speakers are weak. and there's a ton of bloatware. screen is very reflective. feels fragile. battery life more like 5 hours than the advertised 10. blah. the screen dims and brightens on it's own and the inaccurate trackpad pretty much solidify this as a useless piece. Returned after 3 days. I just got this Acer Aspire AS5740-6025. so far so good.

By Angel Martinez (Hialeah, Florida)
Overall this product is a great deal for the price. Only con with this laptop is the mousepad. It locks up coming back from sleep if the gestures are turned on. Also its surface leaves less to be desired. It's metallic surface is not smooth enough and leaves it feeling "sticky".

"The HP DV6t models- Not Too Shabby" 2010-03-25
By Erin Lindsey (San Diego, Ca)
I probably read through every review and article on laptops out there before committing to this one so if you're a little anxious like I was, hopefully this review will be helpful to you (and I've had it for 8 months so it's not like I haven't put it to work). I bought this computer for law school and don't do any intense gaming on it (except procrastinating solitaire).

Specs since it's older:

Screen: 15.6"

Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHz, 2100 Mhz

Memory: 3GB DDR3 System Memory

Hard drive: 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive

Pros:

The screen and keyboard are big enough to work on every day.

It starts up quickly and doesn't lag when running OneNote, Word, the internet and iTunes all at the same time.

I absolutely love the finger print scanner. At first, I thought it was silly to spend the extra $20 but this way you can store the million log ins/passwords you have without letting anyone else who might be using your computer have access to them.

So far it has only crashed once and frozen twice.

The two touch buttons on the keyboard to turn your WiFi on/off and to mute/unmute are pretty handy and save you a few extra clicks.

I don't use my laptop as a boom box, but the few times I've used the speakers the quality was above average.

It's quiet, you don't get a heavy humming ever and it also doesn't get very hot when you actually have it on your lap.

Cons:

The battery life, even on `power saver mode' is 4 hours, MAX. I only used Word, didn't have my internet on/running, music playing, any external accessories sapping power and it barely hit the 4 hour mark before dying. (This is with the regular battery, not the upgraded 12 cell.)

The touch volume controller thingy on the keyboard isn't very precise, its loud and has been activated accidentally an annoying number of times. And you can't disable it, to my knowledge.

The keyboard area is a glossy finish, so you see all the oil and skin and grime and dirt you've left on it after you're done typing. It's gross and makes the computer look dirty. This may not bother other people but it really bugs me.

The left click button on the touch pad is starting to fail (its loose and pushed down) and I haven't had it for a year. Oh and I don't "type with purpose" either.

My A/C adaptor broke even though I make sure never to smash it with books in my bag, always kept the cord wound nicely like it came and generally tried to not abuse it. That made me mad, and goes to show the quality of the material they're giving you for your money that you paid. In HP's defense, they did send me a replacement in 2 days without any hassle. But it was only the box part with the wire that goes into the laptop, and not the other half of the wiring that goes from the outlet to the box part. And they didn't tell me that so I'm happy I didn't throw my old one out expecting to get an entirely new one.

It is kinda heavy. I notice a distinct difference when it's in my bag compared to when it isn't.

All their keyboards come with a dedicated number pad. I'm good at using it so I don't mind, but I don't know how many people really need or want it. Meh.

Conclusion:

It's a decent laptop for the price. I hemmed and hawed and worried about the difference between getting a 2.10 and 2.26 Ghz processor or whether to go with an Intel or AMD chip. But unless you go straight to the top of the line, you're not really going to notice any difference. These days everyone should have an external hard drive to store their beloved music/movies/photos on anyway. If you see this laptop at a good price, buy it and I don't think you'll regret it.

By Lonnie D. Johnson (Rock Springs, Wyoming, USA)
I am very satisfied with the computer. Buyers should be aware of Windows 7 however if they also use a PDA. Palm does not have a USB hotsync driver as of yet. Bluetooth hotsync does work with a little work. I have recommended this particular model to several of my friends. The extended battery life is a definate advantage. Price could have been a little lower but it was well worth the purchase.

"Does what it says, so far." 2010-02-07
By Wandering KME
I had an earlier version of the Pavilion, which died at age 2 (about normal)...but not before it became a VERY heated and temperamental beast. To be honest, I was not so much excited about purchasing the dv6-1350us as relieved to have another laptop on the way asap - it was in the right price range for decent specs. I've had it for about one month and am hoping it does not fall prey to the over-heating problems of the first Pavilion - I had to use a 12 cell battery to lift it off of the surface so it didn't get too hot to touch! - and so far this one hasn't gotten even the tiniest bit warm, even without the use of the 12 cell battery it came with (nice perk) and through a full day's usage.

Usage: at any given moment, I have a number of generic programs running - usually google chrome, IE, skype, some office 2007 programs - excel, word, powerpoint, picture viewer, and a few dialogue box windows, and so far this new one has had no problems dealing with it. Internet Explorer is slow, but that's why I use Chrome! In terms of start-up time, it is still slower than a macbook but I like that microsoft has finally included an *almost* instantaneous sleep/wake function similar to that of apple. The lack of a desktop button on the taskbar with windows 7 was annoying, but can be easily remedied following any online instructional manuals about how to create a new one. Also annoying is the multitude of crappy pre-loaded programs...not all of which have been removed as I'm not sure about what else they relate to program-wise! However, having a numeric keyboard on a laptop is great.

Aesthetics: the screen is nice, I'm happy that the aggravatingly easy-to-touch quicklaunch buttons are gone (with the exception of volume, which is handy), allowing you to clean/touch the computer without turning it on and starting quickplay. That being said, you cannot touch the computer without needing to clean it - the glossy surface is easily marked up. However, the laptop itself is pretty, if a bit heavy, but I'm not travelling much with it at the moment.

Sum: After one month's usage, I am happy with, but not ecstatic about, the dv6-1350us Pavilion. I guess I am jaded with Microsoft as a platform more so than it being a problem with HP laptops. This Pavilion is a workhorse for the average home user, and has so far been able to fulfill all of my needs.

"DO NOT BUY THIS CHARGER" 2009-07-11
By B. M. Willitt (East Aurora, NY)
As many others have pointed out, this charger is completely unreliable. Do yourself a favor, pay a couple extra dollars and avoid the aggravation.

In my case, I found that the pin does not fit my HP Pavilion DV6000 very well at all. The pin is too small, so making a good connection is almost impossible. Even though it is plugged into the laptop, unless you constantly fiddle and turn the pin, the laptop doesn't charge.

The family and I have struggled with it for a few weeks, now I'm just going to buy a new (different) charger. I suggest you do the same...

"almost burned my home down" 2009-06-09
By Sean Lebel
If I could do a no-star rating I would. After owning this product for under 6 months, we almost had our home burned down by it. We do not use our laptop much and one day plugged it in for only 6 hours. We could smell something burning and ran into our office only to find that the charger had burned a LARGRE home into our carpet and was smoking! We unplugged it and had to pull it away from our burned and melted carpeting rug with tongs. In addition, the only way to contact the seller is via e-mail, pointless. Our wall plug has been investigated and the FULL source of the issue was the charger...

"BAD PRODUCT -- Poorly made charger breaks within 3 months" 2009-05-27

I've had my charger for three months and it already broke. I don't take it anywhere, it just snapped in half when I unplugged it.

I have nothing personal against the seller, it's just that his products seem to be as reliant as a plastic kid's toy from the dollar store.

"You get what you pay for, sadly" 2009-05-19
By Donna Y (Philadelphia, PA)
I purchased this in September 2008 for my HP pavilion dv2000. I wanted to be able to bring my laptop home without having to crawl under my desk, unplug and wind up the power plug every time. I kept this charger at home in my living room.

It worked well for the first six months. After that the plug seemed to not hold into the laptop firmly anymore. It also needed to be kept in a certain position in order to actually charge my laptop. It also caused my laptop to make a funny unknown noise that I do not experience at work, or when the laptop is unplugged. Just this week, as I was manipulating the plug in the socket to try to get it to work, it smoked up and fizzed out. This really scared me because I thought it might have destroyed my laptop. I felt very foolish that I might have destroyed an expensive laptop because of a cheap plug. However, it turns out that the plug destroyed itself and my computer is fine. After that I deposed of the plug.

I take care of my belongings and only used this plug in one location at home on a bi-weekly basis. I would have to blame poor design and not wear and tear for the plug's malfunction.

It worked well for the first six months, but you will indeed get what you pay for. Just be careful that you do not destroy your computer by utilizing cheap components like this plug. I am now investing in a mini laptop with really good battery life as an alternative to bringing my larger laptop home.
