After reading all the negative reviews on this laptop I had to put my 2 cents in. I did notice most of the reviews were from 2009 and 2010. I bought mine in 2005 and have had none of the problems everybody mentions. I use it just about everyday and I've never had to replace anything on this unit. I work as a DJ and even use a program called "Virtual DJ" and have had no problems.Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones or maybe they were made better back in 2005.I do feel sorry for everyone who has had problems. I've had my share with my home computer (Gateway)I welcome any comments.

I was a faithful HP customer until now. We bought a dv6000 in July 2007 from Circuit City and thank God we bought the protection plan plus also. This laptop has been in for repair 3 times since last summer and all the same problems described in the Kioskea posts. Having the plan is great BUT the repair people and the warranty people don't communicate with each other, probably because the techs are American and the warranty people farm their telecommunications to scripted robots in India??? HP should have stepped up to the plate and RECALLED this batch of laptops rather than wait until people get stuck with unworkable products! If this next repair does not fix the problem, Apple here I come.

Ive had my HP Pavilion dv6000 for only 2 years have taken care of it but it has been giving me constant problems. At first the battery started draining so fast even though it said "completely charged" it would die in 4 to 5 minutes. I had the battery replaced. Next the power cord is of such poor quality that it ripped off from the brick ...i had to get a new one. The other problems i am experiencing now are that the computer fan goes off like crazy, the mouse freezes all the time, programs stops working. I try shutting the computer down and now it wont start windows right away, i have to press the shut off button more than 5 times for it to come back. The wireless adapter suddenly doesnt pick up any signal anymore..i mean its just a FREAKING MESS!!! i have contacted HP and they dont want to repair this problem because supposedly my computer is no longer covered under their "extended warranty plan" for the wireless problem!!!! They wanted to charge me 450 dollars just to replace the newtwork adapter and the motherboard!!! its outrageous! This is their freaking problem---they had a freaking re-call for goodness sakes! My advice to all you guys planning to buy a laptop: DONT BUY AN HP one. They do not respond..very unreliable.
THEY DONT EVENT DESERVE THE ONE STAR I WAS FORCED TO RATE THEM WITH!

I bought this computer three years ago and it has been giving me trouble for almost the entire time.
The picture and sound quality are really the only things good about this pc. This computer is ideal for watching movies.
The adapter is HORRIBLE. The cord of the adapter keeps breaking (it actually almost caught on fire once) and I've had to replace it FOUR TIMES.
Additionally, the computer gets very hot pretty quickly. I've had it shut on me so often, these days even when the pc isn't hot. I'm so frustrated with this product that I will never buy a HP product of any kind again.

We bought this laptop a year and a half ago. It has failed twice already. Loses the screen, each repair costs 140-180 $. It is undependable & unreliable, I agree with previous reviews. Very poor cost to value ratio.
I have had way better experience with Dell & Toshiba laptops. I made a huge mistake when I gave HP a shot. After this experience, I would never buy an HP laptop again.
